The formation of Future Carbons was driven by a desire to establish robust, local production capabilities within the UK.

By locating operations in South Wales, Future Carbons achieves significant logistical advantages and carbon emission reductions by minimising the need for imported graphite materials. As materials and labour will be sourced locally, the money spent circulates within the community, contributing to economic growth and driving job creation with the expectation of 200 new positions.

This approach aligns with the UK’s sustainability goals, while also offering substantial economic benefits on a local, regional, and national scale. Our facility provides a valuable boost to the local economy by creating skilled jobs, supporting regional industries, and contributing to the UK’s position as a leader in sustainable graphite production.

Our Mission

To responsibly produce and supply synthetic graphite of the highest quality.

Future Carbons is targeting a production outcome of 10,000 tonnes annually by 2027. With a commitment to innovation, operational excellence and environmental stewardship, we aim to meet the evolving needs of the EV and renewable energy markets in the UK and Europe.

Through strategic partnerships and continuous improvement, we strive to drive technological advancements and contribute positively to the global sustainability agenda.

Our Journey so far

Building a Sustainable Future Through Innovation and Collaboration

Launch of the South Wales Facility

We are on-track to establish the UK’s first facility dedicated to the production of synthetic graphite. Our purpose-built facility will allow us to streamline graphite production close to raw materials, significantly reducing emissions and transportation costs.

Collaboration with Industry Leaders

Future Carbons actively partners with the UK government, industry bodies, and academic institutions, to drive innovation in sustainable materials.

Commitment to R&D and Market Relevance

As demand for graphite continues to grow, our investment in research and partnerships strengthens our role in addressing global supply challenges.

Vision

To lead the transformation of the UK’s energy landscape by pioneering sustainable, indigenous production of high-quality synthetic graphite, powering the next generation of lithium-ion battery technologies.

Our Partnership Approach

Our team brings together expertise from various sectors, supported by strategic partnerships with entities including the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), which plays a vital role in the future direction of the graphite market. Our key partnerships span Academia, Industry and Government.
